Since there are 5 of us, we buy large bottles of detergent, bleach and softener at warehouse Club and this rack holds it all, the old plastic unit could not support the weight so we ended up leaving bottles on the washer or the floor which got in the way.
We purchased this cart to replace the plastic three drawer unit that had become a "dust collector" which was purchased because our new front loader washer was wider and we could not fit the old 12-1/2" wide drawer unit. Currently we have a 7.1 cubic foot GE dryer and a 4.3 cubic foot Samsung Steam Washer. The combination leaves 10-1/2" [26.7 cm] from the washer to the wall, but leaves only 10" [25.4 cm] because the door casing takes up 1/2" [12.7 mm].
This unit fit perfectly coming in at 9-1/8" [23.2 cm] wide X 22-1/2" [57.2 cm] long X 31-3/4" [80.6 cm] high including wheels. 9-3/8" [23.8 cm] wide at the wheels.
The only complaint I have about this unit are the wheels. They are 1-1/2" [5.1 cm] diameter light duty. That is why I gave it 4 stars, because we can't give half stars. In comparison, the Whitmor Laundry sorter has 3" [7.6 cm] diameter heavy duty wheels.
You will need a rubber mallet or a piece of wood and hammer to properly assemble this cart. When the company I work for moved to a new facility, I assembled dozens of commercial/industrial racks, so this was a snap for me to assemble, except that shelf supports face up and not down as with industrial rack units and a cheaper similar unit here on Amazon. This was a great idea by Whitmor, the supports keeps your stuff on the narrow shelf! Pay the extra money for this unit it is worth not having all your stuff fall off when moving it around or rolling it out.
Someone who never assembled one of these units wrote the instructions, DO NOT put on the wheels unit until after unit is assembled, the wheels go on LAST. You will want a smooth flat floor, like in a basement, laundry room, garage or kitchen. There are markings on the poles, every fifth marking/groove has a double line. The second or lower line is not as deep (do not use). The top of the pole has a black plug, the bottom has a threaded insert where the wheels screw into after assembly.
There are 30 marking along the length of the poles and you can place the shelves anywhere you like on those marking. There are two black plastic pieces or inserts which fit onto the pole together and wedge the shelf into place, so it is important to make sure you are at the same location on the poles. Remember there is a double line every fifth mark. There is a ridge inside the insert that "locks" into those marked grooves on the poles. Once you have decided where your shelves will be push on half of the insert just above that groove then slide down unit it "snaps" into that groove, then attach the other half which will be automatically located by the fingers on the insert halves. Place the inserts on all four legs/poles and carefully place the shelf into place. After you have all four corners of the shelf over the inserts, lightly tap with mallet or piece of wood and hammer each corner "into place" then a firmer tap in each corner.
Start with the bottom shelf and make sure it is flat and straight, or the cart will rock because all the wheels will not be flat on the floor. When doing the first/bottom shelf, I put one leg in at a time and tap it lightly until all four legs are secure. If the wheels are installed, the cart will roll all over the place while you are trying to install the shelves. (And probably use some very colorful language.) This is why you need to put the wheels on LAST, so you can make sure the first shelf is "square". (I had to disassemble and reassemble several industrial units at work because someone built them with the wheels on and did not get the inserts in the right locations.)
I placed the shelves on the first groove, 15th (middle) groove and the 30th (last) groove. This way we get the most vertical usable space. The middle shelf you can move up or down depending on how tall or short your bottles or objects are.
With tape measure in hand, went to the local big box store and purchased those inexpensive (disposable/reusable) Glad 64 oz [1.89 L] "Deep Dish" 3 pack for less than $3. And in these containers we put the vacuum cleaner belts, shoe cleaner and other odds and ends that were in the drawers...and they stack perfectly on the shelf increasing the usable storage space. The space between the "lips" is 8-5/8" [22 cm]. I had to try several stores but finally found a "pop corn bucket" at a discount store to use to hold the dryer lint (the small plastic storage bin barely lasted one day) and the bag the "bucket" came in was the first liner too boot!
At first I thought I made a mistake with this cart. I was reaching back to get the bleach and soap...then I realized, its on wheels. I roll the cart out and everything is in easy access. Chlorine bleach on the bottom shelf along with shout and glad containers. Fabric softener, spray starch and oxyclean on the middle shelf and the biodegradable organic soap and all fabric bleach on the top shelf along with the lint bucket.
With our Whitmor laundry sorter, doing laundry is so much easier. Now if someone can figure out how make the clothes fold and put themselves away... ;)
Cart works perfect between my washer and dryer. It is recommended that the shelves be placed at pre-set increments, but they can easily be customized at one-inch intervals without compromising stability. I dropped the bottom shelf all the way to the bottom to accommodate three gallon-sized bottles of cleaners, and can still fit large detergent and fabric softener bottles on the second shelf. The top shelf is used for drier sheets etc but could still hold heavier items if I wanted it too. I assembled it easily within fifteen minutes by myself. It is very stable when assembled and the locking wheels are a nice touch. The only thing is the shelves cannot be assembled 'upside down' so the lip edge is facing downward thereby giving a flat shelf surface because the holes that the legs slide through are tapered to fit over the locking clips that snap around the legs to hold the shelves in place. This cannot be reversed as there would be nothing to hold the shelf in place if the locking clips are turned upside down because the large end of the clip that the shelf rests on would then be at the top and the skinnier end at the bottom, and the shelf just slips right down as there is nothing to hold it. But this wasn't an issue for me as I planned to use it with the lip as intended to keep stuff from falling off the shelves. All in all a great cart. I highly recommend it!
I have a lot of industrial shelving. Finding one with a narrow footprint at a decent price is hard. Granted, this one does cost a bit more than others with a larger footprint around the same size and height, but narrow is what you are paying for.
Because I have a lot of shelves like this I have some extra parts. I was able to hack these and stack two on top of one another using the screw bottoms for the caster wheels and screwing them together with a double screw from a previous set of shelves I have. It worked great. I tied the shelf to my other shelf and got the narrow shelf I wanted for that space.
I also keep one of these in my bathroom.
A good, solid cart. A couple thoughts. Read the assembly instructions first. It's fairly simple to build, but assembly is not intuitive, and the plastic sleeves that hold the shelves in place look poorly sized, but I guess that's part of their design. Also, assemble the unit without locking the shelves too firmly into place. You will probably want to move the shelves and will need to reset everything. My advice: Place the lowest shelf as low as possible; the highest shelf as high as possible; and midpoint the middle shelf. That provides the most height for storage on the lower shelves, which you'll need for holding tall spray bottles and gallon jugs. One of the plastic sleeves was defective, but fortunately the manufacturer included a pair of spares. I also wish the the casters were bigger and built stronger, but other than that, I have no complaints so far.
I needed a small metal bookcase to position in an unused space under the kitchen counter, in order to get ready access to cookbooks. This laundry cart was the best fit, dimension-wise. It was super easy to assemble and feels sturdy. To maximize the space for books, I left off the casters, applying stick-on circular felt pads to the bottoms of the vertical rods. Love it, and highly recommend for this different use.

Great item! I purchased this cart to hold my plants and put a grow light at the top to use as a growing station. The shelves were narrower/less deep than I imagined but that's because I didn't pay close enough attention to the dimensions. The set-up was easy but took some fumbling with metal poles which was loud and sort of annoying. But all in all, simple set-up. Didn't need to look at directions at all, probably because I've owned one of these types of shelving units before. The wheels don't seem like the sturdiest things, but I wouldn't be wheeling it around a bunch so it's not a concern. The shelves are sturdy and I really enjoy the look of the cart. One thing I would have liked was if it was possible to have the shelves so that they can lay flat with the "edge" facing downwards. I tried at first to do this, but I figured out the shelves wouldn't support any weight like this, so I nixed that idea pretty quickly but wasn't too bummed about it. The edge is pretty insignificant. Overall, very pleased with my purchase. 5/5, would definitely recommend. Pay attention to the dimensions before buying if you're looking to have the cart fit in a certain place!
I love the look and durability of chrome steel shelving units! I have several larger units in my garage and use lidded 13 gallon totes, each respectively labeled, to house all of the random stuff that can be stored within the confines of a garage with impressive organization thereby eliminating or at the very least, significantly reducing the "cluttered" look that seems to befall every garage. I found myself trying to hide the large containers of vinegar and bleach, the trash can, and the chrome hanger holder for my store quality hangers in between the wall and the dryer. I have cabinets, but these specific things would not work in the cabinets and it just got to be an annoyance. So I started researching and found this unit. Perfect!
This unit measures 9" x 22-1/2" x 31-3/8" with wheels. Without the wheels it is 29" height. My space is 9-3/4" wide, so I knew that the unit would fit, but my concern was at the floor where the shoe moulding and wall base trim took up 3/4", leaving me with 9" and absolutely nothing extra. I had resolved upon purchase, that I had the option of leaving the casters off if they became an obstacle. And I am glad that I made that assumption because the casters do stick out beyond the 9" width not by much, maybe an 1/8" on each side, but it certainly was an issue. HOWEVER, I was able to keep the casters on and just turned them perpendicular to the wall and dryer, thereby fitting the 9" space perfectly and defeating the trim issue, whilst allowing for the extra bit of height.
The shelves themselves are slightly different than the shelves on the larger units that one would use in the garage. This unit's shelves have the lip edge facing up to secure items on the shelves. I am sure that they could be installed upside down, but you would also have to contend with the raised perpendicular reinforcements. Perhaps using a more rigid shelf liner would be the best solution to this particular problem should you want the lip facing downward. I may actually try that later.
Sidenote....I researched the pricing of these on other websites, even the big "O" including a discount. This is the cheapest I found! And if you are a prime member.....BOOM!
Overall, I feel certain that the quality will exceed expectations. Just make sure your width is a little over 9" at minimum!
Excellent, love it! .I don't even have to move it to get the soap from bottle, I keep the bottle on top facing me and done deal till done /next... seems great quality and should last me a long time.
Great laundry cart, after much research I chose this cart to go in the 12" wide space between my washer & dryer and it is clearly the best for that purpose on the market, very easy to assemble and very sturdy. I would have given it 5 stars except the fact that it was impossible to figure out what the actual size of the inside shelves were so I had to return the laundry baskets I ordered based on the external dimensions of 9 1/8 W 22 1/2 L 31 1/2 H . The actual assembled internal shelf space is obstructed by the round uprights so you don't get the full dimensions as advertised, If you go between the uprights you'll need a basket 7" W 22" L if you but up to them you can use a basket 8 1/2 " W 20" L in either case if you maximize the distance between the shelves you can get baskets up to 13" H inside, but the 9 1/8" advertised W is strictly external.
.I purchased this item because of balance problems. I can no longer carry a laundry basiket in two hands. Last year I started to use the paper grocery sacks that have handles on them. I could carry 2 sacks in my left hand. That left me with usually two to three trips from the bedroom to the laundry room. Unfortunately, my balance problems became more severe and I fell three times within a short period of time. I'd already been dealing with a bad left knee and a foot that a small bone was broken when our small but mighty dog stepped on my left foot. I needed a wagon or pushcart of some sort to get me some clean clothes. I went to Amazon.com & plugged in the key words and up came the cart listed above. Its strong but light-weight enough that with the shelves loaded with clothes I could maneuver it over rugs and other idiosyncracies that lie in wait in a 95 yo farm house. Oh I
almost forgot. The shelf width works quite well for folding clothing and towels. I don't think if would work for
queen or king bed sheet, but I could visualize how a single sheet set could be folded on the top shelf of this cart.
