Rev-A-Shelf - 5CW2-2122-CR - 21 in. Pull-Out 2-Tier Base Cabinet Cookware Organizer

This is an excellent way to make use of dead space in a cabinet. We fit almost an entire brand new set of pans into this tiny 12' cabinet, which I did not think was possible. I'm not particularly handy, but managed to install this in under an hour. (The instructions say 20 minutes to install, but that's probably if you actually know what you're doing). There's also space behind the top shelf where I have the lids to fit a small straining pot. The only thing that didn't fit was the large pot, which I'll just put in another cabinet. I recommend this if you're in a smaller kitchen and need to maximize as much space as possible. Not only that, ergonomically this will keep me from kneeing on the floor and rearranging the pots and pans to get what I want out of the cabinet. Ergonomic, Organizational, and ease of install. Not to mention STURDY. I purchased a few more of these rev-a-shelf contraptions.

I got the Rev-A-Shelf - 5WB2-1222-CR - 12 in. W x 22 in. D Base Cabinet Pull-Out Chrome 2-Tier Wire Basket and thought they were pretty great, extremely sturdy. So I got this pot organizer for an adjacent cabinet expecting similar quality.

The lid storage is quite decent. I was happy to find that it fit my old style tall domed Farberware lids easily — it seems like a lot of pot lid racks expect a flatter shape. It also stores them at an angle where they use very little vertical space. (Though I would sacrifice vertical space to fit 1-2 more lids, oh well.)

As for the pot organizer, it works ok, but seems like a step down. In terms of construction, it's flimsier. The wire gauge is narrower than on the wire basket pullout, and there is a lot of open space in the "grid" that supports the pans, even in the center area between the two rows for the pan bodies where there's no reason to leave empty space. Even though the drawer glides are rated to support a lot of weight (100 lbs or more) the drawer itself has more flex and doesn't feel that sturdy. While it might actually be able to support a couple cast iron skillets, I can see why other reviewers have suggested they wouldn't do it. Well, and because the vertical dividers aren't designed to supported that much weight.

Also, not really Rev-a-Shelf's fault, I was hoping for too much. This style of non-nested storage was just too inefficient for me given the number of pots and pans I wanted to keep close to hand. You can basically fit 4 saucepans into an entire lower cabinet space (12" unit). Whereas you can *easily* fit 6 or 8 nested saucepans in less space by storing them nested and sitting flat. I tried nesting and storing sideways in the organizer but it seemed like the worst of all worlds at least with my pans. Ultimately, I ended up not storing any pots/pans in the sideways method recommended. I am using the back half of the pot organizer as a flat surface to store a stack of stock/soup pots, and have some of the dividers set up in front to store small flat items like prep bowl lids and collapsible colanders. My saucepans are nested in one of the wire baskets in my other pullout.

So if you just want neat and easy access to a small set of pots and pans that aren't too heavy, this could be really great. But at least on this 12" unit, if you have more then 4-5 pans that you need to find a convenient home for, you'll probably be disappointed.

I bought this and a companion unit
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H46MB5K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
to be installed side-by-side as you'll see many users have done.

MUCH trickier to put together than the 20 mins estimate the directions for one of the units said. (The other design had totally different directions that didn't say that on front. Smart.)

Speaking of directions, one of the units came with a booklet in which the English directions were - I kid you not - mixed in the with the French and Spanish and were OUT OF SEQUENCE. All the info was there, but for someone with ADHD *whew* did it take me awhile to digest exactly WHAT was going on. !!! I thought it was me but the directions for one of the units was bonkers.

I'm kind of a handy guy in comparison to many people I've known and I found the assembly to be VERY frustrating. Once I got the hang of it, I will admit the second one went together faster. So just be patient.

Here's the rub - after installation of both units I realize that
I LOST storage space volume. !! I had a cabinet with a shelf that was only half the depth of the base cabinet. Since I was going to have two side by side full-depth double stack drawers I'd imagined I'd be gaining some storage space. NOPE. I actually had to get rid of some items that would no longer fit !!!

Yikes.

It's very convenient to be able to pull-out the drawer and access things at the back that way. But because of all the mounting conditions and the design of the units themselves, be prepared for LESS storage space than you had before.

I'm okay with that. I got rid of several pot lids and one little skillet. I found that underneath the units I can store my little cutting boards, thank goodness or else I'd be really upset.

Convenience - YAY
Storage - Ehhh
Ease of installation - Nay

Overall I'm happy but man it was not what I'd hoped for, I'll say that.

My cabinet ended up being a little too deep for the organizer. I was able to bring it forward by installing a 2x4 in the back so the top bracket screws directly into it. It was 4-5in too long in width as well so I just centered it the best I could. Of course the racks lined up perfectly with my cabinets hinges so it would have been difficult to have it on the far right or left side.

One suggestion I would make for anyone who is installing this unit is to fully insert the top rack into position and then mark where you'll need to screw in the top rear right/left brackets. Trust me, nothing is worse than getting the job done and then the sliding racks are struggling to open and close. The metal frame is more playable then you think. Overall the product is good and gets the job done. Def pricey for what you get tho.

This is a 20 minute install only in your dreams. The unit is sturdy and heavy. The slide rails attach to the U shaped frames with some tiny fine threaded machine screws - it takes patience, small dexterous fingers and a magnetic screwdriver to put it together easily. I have only the screwdriver. There are 3 height positions for the upper pot lid slide out. Take a few minutes to measure the pots and pans and the pot lids in the slide-outs beforehand to figure out which height to use so they will not interfere with each other or the top frame rail of the opening.
The actual length of time to install also depends on the width of the cabinet opening relative to the width of the unit. I have some cabinets where it would be a snug fit and easily installed as recommended. But I needed to use a different cabinet where the opening is 2" wider than the unit. I didn't want to move the unit to one side or another - I wanted it centered, for looks and because some of the pan lids overhung the unit slightly. You must secure the upper end of front frame to the cabinet somehow. A snug fit allows you to do that with a single screw into the side of the cabinet face frame vertical - the stile. In my case I needed to add a 1 x 2 to one side of the cabinet box and secure the unit to that. They provide plenty of holes so you can improvise. This is not a criticism of the design. Every cabinet shop uses different dimensions beyond the standard base cabinet outer width - the manufacturer of the unit can only do so much. Securing the upper front of the unit is not optional - if you don't it will feel flimsy - actually its only flexible and stiffens right up once properly secured.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the unit - they'd get 5 stars instead of 4 if they'd had better assembly instructions. I hope this helps someone get it done a little quicker.

WOW! I thought this was a little pricey but just what I needed. This product EXCEEDED my expectations. The shelves come with a steel frame that screws into your cabinet and it can be positioned to avoid hinges and cabinet frames. The steel frame is very sturdy and insures your shelves will be level. The roller mechanisms are smooth and this piece is SOLID. The boyfriend installed it- it took about 2 hours for the first one, then it was easier. I cannot believe how much clutter in my kitchen I just cleared- I consolidated at least two cabinets of pots, pans, and lids into this neat unit. VERY pleased with this purchase and consideration it an upgrade to my kitchen.

I was very skeptical of buying these due to the price. I finally broke down and bought four different units for our kitchen cabinets. These are heavy construction with great ball bearings. They should hold up really well. They work amazing and now we can pull out and get at things from under cabinets that we used to have to crawl on the floor to retrieve.

What you need to know is that the installation took much more time than stated in the directions. The directions assume a perfect cabinet with nothing in them. Don't forget demo and prep time. I also had to make small adjustments due to the pressboard inside the cabinets being warped. Don't forget to measure side to side and to have a small level if you are dealing with OLD cabinets.

I love this rack! I’m not super handy but assembled it myself without any hassles or mistakes, and my husband installed it. It sits alongside a two-tiered basket rack and these two together have reduced my overall swearing by at least 50%! No more fighting to get the big pot in back or the lid at the bottom of the pile! Both shelves pull out easily, they’re sturdy and the bottom rack for pots/pans adjusts well to accommodate my non-matching cookware. The dimensions left me with a little unused space, but we just left that space between the two shelf units and I slide my oversized pan in there. It’s perfect! I used to dream of a kitchen upgrade with a drawer for my pots and pans but I’ve used those in friends’ kitchens and this is better! I’ll definitely by more rev-a-shelf units for other cabinets. Well-made, easy to install, improves organization.

Love! Havent been able to actually put pans as of yet since still remodeling, so I’ll put an update but this is a 27” cabinet so doesn’t fit exactly but gave me a nice space for some cookie sheets on the side. We were puzzled as to how it was going to fit but the end of the brackets do extend so it reaches the back. It’s very sturdy but a little disappointing it doesn’t have self/soft close slides but not a big deal.

Over the past several months, I have purchased quite a few Rev-A-Shelf products to get my cabinets organized. They have all been quality products. They are sturdy, hold as much or as little as you want to put on them. I've loaded a few (including this one) with a LOT of stuff and they still slide out easily. Several of the rev-a-shelf units I bought had one or two pull out wire racks that I used to place things on laying flat. This one was different. The bottom has adjustable slots to hold pots and pans laying on their side. The top part is perfect for all the lids. I was able to load 2 large pasta pots, 2 medium size pots, 2 small pots, 2 large frying pans and 2 small frying pans - basically my entire set. The lids all fit neatly on the top slide out plus I have a few extra slots available for extra lids. The smallest sauce pan size pots are a little small for the unit but we managed to arrange them so they do not fall out. Everything else fits perfectly. Our recommendation is to put some of your bigger lids in the top shelf BEFORE you install the unit and see how high up you should put the shelf. The higher the better because that allows the bottom shelf to hold bigger pots or longer handled frying pans without getting in the way of the top slide out. We didn't do that and had to take the top shelf out and move it up a notch. It wasn't a big deal but it would have saved us time if we had done that first. We did not get the door attachment for this one because we had double doors and it seems like the door might be in the way a little for getting the middle pots and pans out of the bottom. We have purchased rev-a-shelf slide outs with the door attachments for 2 of our end cabinets and LOVE that feature. My entire cabinet is now usable. I can just slide out the shelves and reach what I want easily without sitting on the floor, pulling everything out, unstacking pots, etc. I used the pictures posted on the web to help me set up the dividers and determine the best way to load the unit. I would highly recommend this and other rev-a-shelf products to anyone looking to organize and make use of the full cabinet space.
