When I first found this wooden magnetic knife holder, I was looking for a wooden holder that would hold the knives no matter where they were placed. Some other holders used button magnets, so they would only hold in 4 or 5 places, while this one appeared to be able to hold knives at any point. I also wanted a knife holder thick enough that I could add cup hooks to the underside to hang decorative measuring cups. I was concerned by the picture, whose thickness did not appear to match the 1" depth listed in the product dimensions in the description. I was not disappointed, though, it truly is 1 inch deep, and the cup hooks worked beautifully. We have a 7.5 ounce santoku knife, and this holder holds it solidly no matter where i=on the strip it is placed. Mounting took me 10 minutes using a drill, a tape measure and a level. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a more natural looking knife holder.
12/15/2017 I haven't mounted it yet, but I've tested it and the magnet is indeed up to the task on both some better and some lower quality knives. It's made of glued together wood, but the top is a solid piece, so it looks fine, at least to me. The one thing I REALLY wish for is a 12" version. I wanted to mount this on the end of my wall cupboards, and they are 12" deep. So this isn't going to work there. But the product does what it says it does.
I really like this holder. I previously had another similar one, but the magnet inside was not strong enough for larger knives. This one is great. It will even hold my knives inside their plastic protective sleeves!!
This is a great knife rack but it is a little heavier than I expected. No problem with quality and I should have read the description closer.

Really strong magnet and very classic and clean looking. Only reason I didn't it give it 5 stars was that it did not come with hardware to hang it.
